What can the Forum offer you?

The Forum believes the input of the voluntary sector is vital to help break down inequalities and improve the health of the nation.

Your work and interests will benefit by joining the Forum - whether you want to influence policy or to hear the views of those working in the public health field.

The NGO Forum has an agreement for how its members will work with the Department of Health.

What do we offer you, as a national non-governmental organisation?

A platform, giving you the opportunity to:

  • get involved in discussions and debates on developing aspects of public health policy and practice
  • feed your views and experience into existing or new policy
  • debate what approaches are effective and how to apply them in practice.
  • access to people who matter to your work:
    - opportunities for direct dialogue and discussion with key government policy makers
  • opportunities to hear the views of other non-governmental organisations
  • a chance to discuss your own views and gain potential advocates
  • occasion to promote relevant aspects of your own work to other NGOs as well as policy makers and implementers.

We will give you:

  • updates of key consultations underway across government
  • regular briefings on the developing wider public health agenda
  • the NGO Forum website www.ngoforum.org.uk
    with access to news and events.

Would you like to join the NGO Forum?

As a national policy maker in a government department or unit, your work can impact on the health and well-being of communities.

So what can the Forum offer you?

Access to expertise from the field of public health:

  • ready access to an increasing range of national non-governmental organisations
  • an established channel for informing and briefing a range of national non-governmental organisations
  • a pool of potential speakers who can contribute a non-governmental perspective to any events or conferences you may be organising.
  • a platform for discussion and showcasing your work
  • an active forum for discussion and dialogue with national non-governmental organisations that want to contribute to developing policy and practice issues
  • an additional channel to demonstrate your commitment to wider consultation and involvement in developing policy and practice
  • a rapid response service to provide initial views and input to developing work.

Expertise. You can benefit from our experience. We offer you:

  • a manager and small steering group, who will support you in engaging with national non-governmental organisations
  • opportunities to organise tailored seminars, workshops and discussions so staff can build a wider understanding of the role and contribution of the non-governmental sector in their work.

Regular contact to keep you informed and up to date:

  • regular updates on issues of concern to national NGOs and a chance to better understand the potential contribution that NGOs can make across different sectors and at different levels
  • the NGO Forum website www.ngoforum.org.uk
    with access to news and events.

If you are working at regional or local level in an NGO, or have an interest in encouraging dialogue between the non-governmental sector and government, then you can join the Forum contacts database.

While we can't offer you full membership, we would be happy to keep you informed about our work hear your views.

  • periodic updates on the work of the Forum
  • reminders of key current government consultations
  • invitations to national events, seminars and conferences.
