The
Government is set to form a partnership with the Advertising
Association in its fight against the obesity crisis.
It is the first time that industry stakeholders will
get a voice to influence any new Government policies
on food advertising.
A lack of exercise and time spent sitting in front
of a television or computer screen are not to blame
for the boom in obesity, scientists have said. Researchers
have found that people burn the same number of calories
each day as they have for the last 20 years, which means
that over-eating rather than a sedentary lifestyle is
the main cause of the "obesity epidemic".
As reported
by Daily Telegraph from research published in the
International Journal of Obesity.
Alan Johnson, the Health Minister has given a commitment
to tackling health inequalities and helping the
most deprived communities in a document call 'Health
inequalities: progress and next steps'

Fund, local
areas are invited to come up with innovative ways to
make regular physical activity and healthy food choices
easier for local communities, with the aim of preventing
overweight and obesity in England.

of cardiovascular disease.

Local Government Association has called for overhaul
of labelling on food and alcohol to help tackle
obesity and give people more accurate information.
The Government has published a supplementary budget
report 'Ending child poverty: everybody's business'
which sets out the next steps, including the measures
announced in Budget 2008, with the aim of making progress
to halving child poverty by 2010.

Trust: Improving public health through good food
This conference has been designed to appeal to policy
