The Government is set to form a partnership with the Advertising Association in its fight against the obesity crisis. It is the first time that industry stakeholders will get a voice to influence any new Government policies on food advertising.

A lack of exercise and time spent sitting in front of a television or computer screen are not to blame for the boom in obesity, scientists have said. Researchers have found that people burn the same number of calories each day as they have for the last 20 years, which means that over-eating rather than a sedentary lifestyle is the main cause of the "obesity epidemic".
As reported by Daily Telegraph from research published in the International Journal of Obesity.

The Government has published a supplementary budget report 'Ending child poverty: everybody's business' which sets out the next steps, including the measures announced in Budget 2008, with the aim of making progress to halving child poverty by 2010.

Alcohol Misuse: Reducing Alcohol-related Harm in the UK
Timed to coincide with the publication of both the Department of Health and the Home Office's report into supermarket pricing of alcohol, and the National Audit Office's value for money study of health services for alcohol harm reduction, this seminar will examine the most important current issues related to the misuse of alcohol.

Caroline Walker Trust: Improving public health through good food
This conference has been designed to appeal to policy makers, practitioners, health professionals, students and supporters of the Trust. The aim of the day is to cover aspects of public health nutrition. The conference themes will focus on nutrition from pregnancy, through early years to old age, with particular emphasis on vulnerable groups, and provides an opportunity to receive an updated summary of all CWT recommendations.

NICE 2008: Excellence in action, 10th anniversary conference
