Fair
Play: A consultation on the play strategy. A commitment
in The Children's Plan
This play strategy consultation document sets out how
Government departments propose to work together and
with partners to create more and better opportunities
for all children to play, building on the framework
and investment laid out in the Children's Plan. The
consultation closes on 18 July 2008.
European Commission has published proposals for the
"`Health Check'" reforms of the EU Common
Agricultural Policy (CAP). This is an important review
of the CAP that could potentially have significant implications
including enhancing the delivery of environmental benefits
through farming for the environment and for cutting
prices for consumers. To
help inform the UK's approach to negotiations, the Department
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has
launched a consultation on the EU proposals, which
closes on 1 September 2008.
The Government has published a Youth
Alcohol Action Plan aimed at tackling teenage drinking
which is open to consultation until 7 July 2008.

The
Cancer Reform Strategy 2007 announced the Government's
intention to consult on the next steps in tobacco control,
the further regulation of tobacco products, and to consult
with stakeholders on measures to reduce the significant
harm to health caused by smoking for those who are addicted
to nicotine and not able to quit altogether. This consultation
is the first step in developing a new national tobacco
control strategy. The consultation closes on 08 September
2008.
If you are interested in this you may like to know
that the Smokefree Action Coalition (that consortium
of health bodies that successfully campaigned for smokefree
legislation in England) launched a new campaign for
a comprehensive tobacco control strategy. Please visit
the new website www.smokefreeaction.org.uk
to sign up to the campaign and receive advice and evidence
for your own responses to the DH consultation. The website
has a new members zone with restricted access to a range
of useful resources.
